KARLHello My Name Is Karl And I Am An Alcoholic.

The fact that I haven't had a taste of any alcoholic beverage in almost 24 years (Oct.15,1981) DOES NOT change the fact that I have the disease of Alcoholism!
The DEADLY disease as fatal as most & probably causing more fatalities per year than, all the others combined.
The saddest part of the fatality rate is that most of the victims are not the alcoholics themselves, but include thousands of innocents as well!

Today - October 15 - is the ONLY Birthday I celebrate - 2005 = 24 years since my RE-BIRTH in sobriety!
My Biological birth was an "accident" and I was reminded of that fact often while growing up.
My rebirth date of sobriety has much more significance for me than my biological birth because it was the day I decided I DESERVED to live my life FREE of alcohol!
More on my history here.

The Serenity Prayer
God, grant me
The serenity to
accept the things
I cannot change,
Courage to change
the things I can,
and
Wisdom to
know the difference.
THE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort
than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.
